Alexander Grayver will present: "Illuminating the Planetary Interiors using Electromagnetic Induction sounding"

Abstract: Magnetic fields that originate around planets and moons contain a wealth of information on their interior structure and dynamics. The use of time-varying part of these fields enables studying subsurface electrical conductivity by means of a technique known as (electro)magnetic sounding. While well established for Earth, planetary sciences rarely take the full advantage of these methods, despite growing volumes of satellite magnetic field observations for various solar system bodies. This presentation discusses recent progress in the field and shows applications of magnetic sounding techniques to Moon, Mars and Europa.
